Nonsense creature Writing

My nonsense creature’s name is Quaila.
My nonsense creature’s name is this because it kind of
sounds like a koala but a new and improved version where
it is mixed with a butterfly.
My nonsense creature likes to climb trees and then jump
off and fly with its wings.
My nonsense creature stays in tall trees because
it is harder for predators to get to them and they
sleep there too.
My nonsense creature can fly and do flips in the air.
My nonsense creature is made up of blue fabric, a bottle,
bottle caps and a vivid.
My nonsense creature eats leaves and nectar.
My nonsense creature gets about learning new flips.
My nonsense creature is small in size.
I love my nonsense creature because it is unique

Writing Term 3 Speech

Hi I’m Keeva and I have a question for you!
Have you ever wondered what life as a polar bear would be like? Well I’m going to take you on a journey through what it might be like to be a polar bear.
Well what are we waiting for let’s go...

<<<<<<<<<<<<<       Habitat
Polar bears live in the arctic circle, which humans find freezing but for polar bears they don’t find it cold at all. In fact, often they actually get hot and find it hard to keep cool. That is because they have a type of fat on their skin called blubber. Blubber is a fat that mammals such as whales, seals and polar bears have to keep them warm in the cold conditions.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<      Diet
Polar bears eat seals, walrus, beluga whales and fish. But now they are finding it harder and harder to find food that they will eat pretty much anything they can find for example birds, rodents, reindeer and plastic.  Research has shown ingesting plastic causes polar bears to become irritable and aggressive, most likely due to blocked digestive systems as Polar bears are commonly seen rummaging through dumps.

<<<<<<<<<<<<       Global warming
Global warming is a serious situation you may not think it’s real but go ask any polar bear, they are severely affected.
You maybe wondering what is global warming? Well global warming is a gradual increase of temperature in the earth, due to pollution. The Arctic is heating twice as fast as the rest of the globe average. Causing the ice that polar bears depend on to catch food and raise their young on to melt away. Leaving them stranded to swim through the ocean hunting for food and ice. It is now taking 60 percent more energy than expected for polar bears to catch seals. Since seals need ice to survive too. The polar bears are having to travel farther and farther to find them. Global warming is forcing them to starve and spend most of their time swimming to find food.
Research shows that it’s not to late to save the polar bears
<<<<<<<<<<<<       How you can help
If you would like to help save the polar bears from extinction, like me here a few ideas of how you can.
  •  Recycle more it’s simple but effective
  • Use your car less walk ride your bike when you can
  • Avoid products with lots of packaging
  • Turn off your electronic devices when your not using them
These are just a few simple ways there are so many more, little changes can make a big difference.

<<<<<<<<<<<<        Summary
So I hope by listening you have realised how hard it would be to be a polar bear and that they really need our help. Wait before I go I would like you to think about something.

Do you think you would survive as a polar bear? And how could you make a change for them?

Writing Nz Bird of the year

Which bird did you vote for, for the new zealand bird of the year?
Well i’m writing to tell you what bird i think should win. The Banded Dotterel (Pohowera) i think that this bird should win because it is very critically endangered and close to extinction.
It is a small bird that lives along new zealand's coastlines, estuaries and riverbeds. They were actually founded in new south wales but now is commonly seen on seashores across the south island. The numbers of these birds are going down more and more day by day and we need to save them.
Do you want to know how to recognise them well they are small birds with long legs for their size thin but lean. Different shades of brown lines across their whit belly they are of various widths and shades.
Now here a few fun facts about them.
  • They have a few other names such as: Double-banded plover and tÅ«turiwhatu.
  • Banded dotterels breed throughout New Zealand on sandy coasts, shingle and braided riverbeds, or sometimes farmland.
  • Birds that breed on the coasts normally don’t migrate significant distances once nesting is complete but these amazing birds do.
  • There scientific name is Charadrius bicinctus

These are just a few cool facts about them so that brings me to a conclusion of why I would vote for them.

Writing Pedal power

To pedal power,
Thank you for helping us learn new tricks and techniques on our bikes.
I really enjoyed playing the turtle race and learning about pedal tapping. I didn’t know about all the ways to check the bikes from now on I will always use them.
Thanks again,

Keeva

The sorting hat
An unusual letter was in the letterbox I took it out and saw it was addressed to me. I was surprised, then I realised who it was from. I screamed and ran inside to open it.
I was going to Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry. I was what you would call a half blood. My Dad was a wizard and my mum was not since my Mum wasn’t a witch, we lived in the muggle world. My dad had sometimes taken me to the wizard world, and I loved it, he has been taking me since I was as young as 4. From the very first time he took me I decided I couldn’t wait to go to Hogwarts and I was finally going. This is the best day of my life.

It was finally the day september 1st, the first day of school. We were at the station early because I did not want to miss the train. My dad had told me all these stories of his time at Hogwarts. One of them was on his 3rd year he missed the train and had to drive a flying car and let me tell you that did not sound like an experience I wanted to have. Dad had told me all about the first day. There’s a big feast every year and Dumbledore the headmaster tells you pretty much everything you need to know about the school, and all the first years get sorted into their houses. (Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Slytherin and Ravenclaw). You get sorted by a hat but not just any old hat a magical hat that talks, they have been using it for years and years. I hope I’m in Gryffindor.

Finally it was time to go to station 9 and 3 quarters. My dad talked me through it and then I ran through the wall and landed right next to the sign. Hoooooo! I turned around and saw the big beautiful Hogwarts express. I said my goodbyes to my parents and promised to write them every week. I pulled my trunk onto the train and found a nice little compartment. Two other girls were in there Franki Olsen and Shayla Ameer they seemed nice so I sat down with them. We talked a lot. Until we got disrupted by the lady with all the sweets. “Any thing from the trolley dears” she asked. We looked at each other and said “Yes Please”.

We pulled up to a slow stop. We were there, I heaved my trunk out of the train looked around this was amazing. The castle stood so tall, we walked through the biggest doors I had ever seen. Everyone was looking around staring and Gaping all thinking the same thing “this is Awesome”. We finally made it to the great hall everyone took their seats at there house tables except for the first years we all stood in a line. The great hall was beautiful there were rows of humungus tables and the ceiling looked like the night sky with candles floating up. At the front there was a long table where all the teachers sat and there was a special spot for every teacher. We were called to silence by Professor Dumbledore and Professor Mcgonagall began to read names and one by one a first year student would go up to the front and get the sorting hat placed on there head.

“Keeva Carmichael” my name was called I walked up to the seat and sat down. The hat was placed on my head. Butterflies were swirling continuously around in my stomach I felt sick. I was so nervous. The sorting hat began to talk but I wasn’t listening I heard parts but not much. I was crossing my fingers hoping hat I got into gryffindor and not slytherin. Then the sorting hat screamed Gryffindor! Cheers from the gryffindor table. I was so relieved. I looked over at professor Mcgonagall she smiled down at me and then called the next name. I took my seat at the Gryffindor table next to Franki Olsen not long after Shayla Ameer sat on my other side. The feast began I filled my plate, this was by far one of the best meals I’ve ever had. I had a feeling this was going to be a great year.

Writing Senses Week 10 Term 3

Wearable art show

I breathed the strong scent of paint in, as I stepped on to the stage. I felt like I had just walked into a paint shop the scent was so strong, the smell was swirling around me like a tornado of paint was forming. I could see blinding bright lights shining on me. The lights burned my eyes like I was staring at the scorching sun. The X’s marked out on the ground in front of me where I had to walk it was like a real life treasure map. I could taste the sweat dripping off my face like rain drops on a window. It was salty like I a wave brushed over my head and I swallowed in sea water. I could hear the howling cheers like a wolf at the moon. The crowd clapping like I had won an Olympic gold medal. I felt like a tidal wave of relief swept over me as I stepped off stage. I pulled the mask off and  felt the cool breeze blow through my hair like I was in the top of the world.

This week we wrote about the wearable arts show and senses.

Wearable art show
The day was here it was finally time to put on the show,
I was lining up looking all the other wearable arts costumes that people had worked so hard on. I walked in this was it show time!
I stepped out on stage and I could…
Smell, paint like I had walked into a new home that had just been painted,
See, smiley people flashing their cameras. The flash was blinding like the flaming sun,
Taste, sweat dripping off my face like watching raindrops slowly slide down a window,
Hear, cheers and claps like my team had just won the rugby world cup,
Feel, excited like a huge surprise was coming.
The show was full of fun and was amazing.
Thank you for every one who helped me create my costume.

Last week was the wearable art show it was so fun I learnt that rubbish can be reused to make something amazing.

Springs Coming

Springs coming
I woke up on August 31st and looked out my window and I knew immediately spring was coming…
Spring was coming because the grass was growing greener, the leaves were growing flower buds were blooming.
The sun beamed through my window. I stepped outside and the calm breeze blew through my hair sun beaming onto me.
A little bunny hopped out of a bush followed by an even tinier one. Baby lambs were being loud, in the early morning the crisp air felt so nice.
That’s how I knew that spring was coming.
